Chincoteague in Virginia is an exposed beach and jetty break known for its dependable surf that can work throughout the year. It performs best when southeast swells combine with offshore winds from the west, producing a mix of left and right-hand waves. The surf here is primarily driven by groundswells, and while it offers reliable conditions, it remains largely uncrowded—even when the waves are good. The best time for clean, rideable surf is during the summer months, with July being the most consistent and favorable period for ideal wave and wind conditions.
