Local Knowledge
San Jose Island in Texas is an exposed beach/jetty break that only works occasionally, mainly during the hurricane season. It performs best when a southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the northwest. The waves are more often local windswells than distant groundswells, and the break offers good surf at all tide stages. This spot is rarely crowded. Surfers should beware of rips, obstacles, sharks, and jellyfish. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during Winter, with December being the most reliable month.
