Galveston in Texas is an exposed beach break with inconsistent surf that improves during the hurricane season. It performs best when a southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the north-northwest. The surf is typically driven by local windswells rather than distant groundswells. The beach offers both lefts and rights and works well across all tide stages. It can become quite crowded when the surf is good. Surfers should be cautious of rips, obstacles, sharks, and jellyfish. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during Winter, with February being the most reliable month.
