Plage Loukos in Tanger to Rabat is an exposed beach and jetty break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, though it can provide dependable waves at any time of the year. It performs best when a strong northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the east. The waves arrive in the form of both Atlantic groundswells and windswells that are shaped by the jetty structure, producing mainly left-hand waves across the sandy shoreline that can become quite punchy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably tide-sensitive and remains rideable primarily on a rising mid-tide, which often provides the cleanest faces and best wave shapes. While it is a reliable spot along this stretch of coast, the expansive nature of the beach usually allows for a manageable lineup with relatively few surfers even when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as dangerous rips, man-made structures like buoys, and water pollution.
