Springmaid Beach in South Carolina is an exposed beach break that primarily receives groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the southeast and offshore winds from the northwest. The break is rarely crowded, even when the surf is up, offering a quieter alternative to nearby spots. The best surf conditions occur when southeast swells align with northwest winds. Winter, especially December, provides the most consistent clean waves. Sharks are a known hazard at this location.
