Cape Romain, located within a remote section of the National Wildlife Refuge, is a rarely visited beach-break accessible only by boat. It performs best in late summer, early fall, and early spring, when southeast and south swells align with offshore breezes to create peaky, rideable surf over shifting sandbars. The waves are most consistent around low to mid tide, offering waist-to-chest-high conditions for advanced surfers ready for solitude. Given its remoteness, expect minimal crowds—though treacherous rips, strong currents, and access challenges make this a spot suited only for experienced, well-prepared surfers.
