Burkes Beach is a Hilton Head Island beach-break favored for its shifting sandbars and occasional peaky waves, especially when the incoming tide works in sync with swell. It performs best during hurricane season—typically September—when southeastern or south swells bring the most consistent, rideable conditions under light offshore winds. The optimal window is incoming tide leading to high tide, delivering both lefts and rights, with the best setup near the rocky outcropping at the right end of the beach for longer rides. While crowds can appear during favorable conditions, the beach’s width allows for spreading out. Be aware of strong tidal currents and the nearby rocky zones posing hazards.
