Local Knowledge
Sakonnet Point in Rhode Island is a semi-exposed point and beach break that comes alive during the fall hurricane season and strong winter nor’easters, with September through November producing the most reliable clean surf. It works best on south to southeast swells with offshore winds from the northwest to north, and a mid to rising tide often delivers the best shape. The waves can range from long, peeling rights along the point to punchy, more unpredictable peaks on the beach break section, making it versatile for different board types. Crowds are usually light, but access and parking can be limited, adding to its secluded feel.
