Mansion Beach in Rhode Island is an exposed beach break that offers powerful, well-shaped waves favored by intermediate to advanced surfers—best conditions generally occur in late summer through fall. Offshore northwest winds clean up south and southeast swells, producing fast, hollow peaks that can hold sizable surf. The break works on most tides, though mid tide often provides the best combination of speed and shape. Crowds are usually light due to its more remote location, but the paddle-out can be challenging during larger swells. Surfers should be aware of strong rip currents and shifting sandbars. The best surf is typically in September and October.
