Breachway in Rhode Island is an exposed beach and jetty break with a mix of sand and rocks, offering peaky, powerful waves that suit intermediate to advanced surfers—best conditions typically arrive in late summer through fall. Offshore northwest winds groom south and southeast swells, producing both lefts and rights, with the jetty creating longer, more defined rides on certain tides. The spot works best around mid tide, when waves have optimal shape and reduced backwash from the rocks. Crowds can build quickly on good swell days, especially among locals who know the lineup. Surfers should be cautious of strong rip currents, shifting sandbars, and submerged rocks near the jetty. The best surf is typically found in September and October.
