El Unico in Puerto Rico is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with very reliable surf that works year-round. It performs best on north swells with offshore winds from the south-southeast, drawing energy from both local windswells and distant groundswells. The break offers both left and right-hand waves, but has little shelter from cross-shore winds. When conditions align, the spot can become crowded, and surfers should watch for strong rips, localism, and pollution. The most consistent clean surf occurs during winter, especially in November.
