Praia dos Alteirinhos is a fairly exposed beach break in the Algarve that has inconsistent waves, with winter being the favored time of year for surfing, offering both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a southwest swell combined with offshore winds from the north or northeast. The spot tends to be quiet, attracting few surfers even when conditions are good. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in January.
