Praia do Ponta Ruiva is an exposed reef break in The Algarve that offers pretty consistent surf, with autumn being the optimum time of year for waves. The most favorable conditions are a Northwest swell from windswells or groundswells combined with offshore winds from the Southeast. The break provides good surf at all stages of the tide. The spot is unlikely to be crowded, even when the surf is up. Surfers should be aware of rocks and locals. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in October.
