Matosinhos is an exposed beach and reef break in North Portugal that offers reasonably consistent surf year-round, featuring both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a West swell (from windswells or groundswells) combined with offshore winds from the East. The break works best around low tide. When the surf is up, crowds are likely. Surfers should be aware of urchins, rips, rocks, man-made danger (buoys etc.), and pollution. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in December.
