Local Knowledge
Saint Nicolas in the Côte de Lumière is a rare find for the region—an exposed left-hand point break. While it offers a more defined wave shape than the nearby beach breaks, it is notably inconsistent and frequently goes flat during the summer months. It draws a mix of groundswells and windswells, favoring a West-southwest swell direction. A significant advantage of Saint Nicolas is its versatility, as it remains surfable at all stages of the tide. However, surfers must be highly cautious of submerged rocks, which are a constant hazard along the point. The best conditions occur when a West-southwest swell combines with Northwest offshore winds. Interestingly, while it is often flat in the warmer months, July and the Summer season are cited as the peak times for finding consistent, clean windows.
