Short Sands in North Oregon is an exposed beach break with reasonably consistent surf throughout the year, offering both left and right-hand waves. The best swell direction is from the southwest, mainly powered by groundswells, while the ideal wind direction is from the east, with some shelter from north winds. This fairly popular spot can get crowded at times, and surfers should be cautious of dangerous rips. Optimal conditions occur when a southwest swell combines with an east offshore wind. The most consistent and clean waves typically happen during winter, especially in January.
