Newport in South Oregon is a reasonably exposed beach break with consistent surf, best during summer. It performs well with a southwest swell and offshore winds from the east, receiving both windswells and groundswells. The waves peel to the right and are unaffected by the tide. When conditions are good, it can get crowded. Surfers should watch for rips and sharks. The best time for clean, rideable waves is typically in winter, especially January.
