Indian Head in North Oregon is an exposed beach break that usually delivers reliable surf, with the best conditions during summer, though winter—especially January—can bring the most consistent clean waves. The spot receives a steady mix of groundswells and windswells, with the ideal swell direction from the west. Optimal surf occurs when a west swell combines with offshore winds from the east. Unlike some nearby breaks, Indian Head is surfable at all tide stages, but it’s often crowded. Hazards include rips, undertow, rocks, and sharks, so caution is advised.
