Local Knowledge
La Chapelle in Languedoc-Roussillon is an exposed reef break that works only when conditions are just right, with the summer months typically remaining flat. It performs best with a southeast swell and offshore winds from the north-northeast, with waves much more likely to be generated by local windswells than distant groundswells. Even when the surf is up, it is unlikely to be crowded, offering a relatively quiet lineup. However, surfers should be extremely cautious of rocks, strong rips, and a tricky water entry, especially when the swell size increases. The most optimal conditions occur when a primary southeast windswell aligns with a steady north-northeasterly offshore breeze.
