Local Knowledge
Banyuls in Languedoc-Roussillon is a fairly exposed beach and reef break with inconsistent surf, making autumn and winter the most reliable seasons for waves. It performs best with a northeast windswell and offshore winds from the southwest, though the spot also benefits from some shelter against northwesterly winds. The location offers right-handers at the beach and a left-hand reef break, both of which remain surfable at all stages of the tide. It is rarely crowded, providing a quiet atmosphere, but surfers should be cautious of rocks within the lineup. The most optimal conditions occur when a primary northeast swell aligns with offshore southwesterly winds.
