Pontaillac in the Côte de Lumière is an exposed beach break located in the heart of Royan, known for its relatively unreliable surf. Like many spots in this region, the summer months are frequently flat, requiring significant energy to bring the break to life. When it does work, it primarily offers right-hand waves fueled by a mix of groundswells and windswells; however, its urban location means the lineup can sometimes become crowded. The best conditions occur when a West swell combines with Northeast offshore winds, with September being the prime month for finding consistent, clean waves.
