Shit Pipe in North Carolina is an exposed sandbar break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. It primarily receives groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the east-southeast and offshore winds best from the west-northwest. The spot can get crowded at times, and hazards include strong rips and undertow, rocks, pollution, localism, man-made dangers like buoys, and sharks. The best surf conditions occur when east-southeast swells align with west-northwest winds. Autumn offers the most consistent clean waves, with October being the standout month.
