Ocean Isle Beach/Pier in North Carolina is an exposed beach break with generally unreliable surf, though summer brings the most favorable conditions. It receives a mix of windswells and groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the south-southeast and offshore winds from the north. The beach offers both left and right-hand waves and works best around mid tide as it’s rising. The best surf occurs when south-southeast swells align with north winds. Autumn, especially September, provides the most consistent clean waves. The spot can get crowded—sometimes to the point of being hazardous.
