Local Knowledge
Atlantic Beach in North Carolina is an exposed beach break known for its somewhat unreliable surf, though it can offer solid sessions when conditions align. It works best when a south-southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the north, producing both left and right-hand waves. The spot handles a mix of groundswells and windswells and is surfable at all stages of the tide. While wave quality can be hit or miss, itβs often crowded when the surf is upβso much so that wearing a Gath helmet might not be a bad idea for safety. The best chances for clean, rideable waves occur in autumn, with September offering the most favorable conditions.
