Alabama Ave. in Kure Beach is a centrally located beach-break that benefits from multiple sandbars along this stretch of shoreline, offering peaky lefts and rights under the right conditions. It performs best in fall, particularly October through November, when hurricane swells and nor’easter groundswells from the southeast and northeast combine with offshore winds from the west or northwest. The spot usually breaks best around low to mid tide, producing rideable, fairly consistent waves. Compared to nearby piers, crowds here are lighter, giving surfers more room to spread out.
