Local Knowledge
Vaucottes in Normandy is an exposed beach and reef break with fairly consistent surf, though summer months tend to be mostly flat. It performs best with a west-southwest groundswell and offshore winds from the southeast. The spot provides both left and right-handers and is notably versatile, as it offers good surf at all stages of the tide. It can become crowded, and because of the traffic in the water, wearing a Gath helmet is a recommended safety precaution. The most consistent clean waves typically occur during the winter, particularly in February.
