Etretat in Normandy is an exposed reef break with reliable surf, though the summer months tend to be mostly flat. It performs best with a southwest groundswell and offshore winds from the southwest. The reef produces a distinct left-hand wave that is best surfed around mid-tide. When conditions are optimal, the spot can become quite crowded, and surfers should remain cautious of rocks and potential pollution. The most consistent clean waves typically occur during the winter, particularly in January.
