Tata Beach in Nelson - Tasman Bay is an exposed beach break where the best conditions occur when a North windswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South. Due to the short fetch, groundswells are rare, and while the spot has no shelter from cross-shore breezes, it is able to handle light onshore winds. The beach break offers both left and right-hand waves that provide good surf at all stages of the tide. It remains an uncrowded break even when it is working, making it a peaceful option for surfers.
