Pohara Beach in Nelson - Tasman Bay is a very sheltered beach break where autumn and winter are the optimum times of year for waves. The best conditions occur when a Northeast windswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South, though the spot has no shelter from cross-shore breezes and remains surfable in an onshore breeze. The beach break provides both left and right-handers and offers good surf at all stages of the tide. It is an uncrowded break even when it is working, making it ideal for those seeking a quiet session.
