Gore Bay in Kaikoura is an exposed beach break that has reasonably consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a Southeast groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the West. The beach break provides both left and right-handers and performs best around high tide. It very rarely gets crowded here, making it a good option for a quiet session. The best time of year for surfing Gore Bay with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
