Smith Point County Park in Suffolk County is an exposed beach break offering consistent surf that comes alive with south and southeast swells, especially during hurricane season in late summer and fall. Offshore northwest to west winds groom the waves into clean, workable peaks, producing a mix of rights and lefts over shifting sandbars. It can handle a range of swell sizes, though larger swells may bring stronger currents and heavier shorebreak. The spot works on most tides, with mid tide often delivering the best combination of shape and power. Crowds are typically moderate, with plenty of room to spread out along the shoreline.
