Sands in New Jersey is an exposed beach break that works occasionally with no specific seasonal pattern. The best conditions occur when a southeast swell combines with a west offshore wind, most commonly during the summer, particularly in July. Surf is typically driven by both local windswells and distant groundswells. When the surf is up, the spot can get crowded, so be mindful of rocks, man-made hazards like buoys, private beach areas, localism, and pollution. For optimal surf, look for southeast swells with light offshore winds from the west.
