Delaware Bay in Nelson is a reasonably exposed beach break with reasonably consistent surf, where spring and summer typically provide the optimum conditions for waves. The best conditions occur when a Northwest groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South. The beach break offers both lefts and rights and performs best around mid tide when the tide is falling. It very rarely gets crowded here, making it a reliable choice for a quiet session. Although spring and summer are noted for the best overall conditions, the winter months—particularly August—provide the most consistent clean waves with light or offshore winds.
