Whites Bay in Nelson is a fairly exposed beach break that offers very consistent waves, although it tends to be mostly flat during the summer months. The best conditions occur when a Southeast groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest. The beach break provides both left and right-handers and performs best around high tide. It is rarely crowded here, though surfers should be cautious of dangerous rips. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
