Local Knowledge
Sangatte in Nord - Pas de Calais is an exposed beach break with unreliable waves that frequently remain flat during the summer months. It performs best with a north swell and offshore winds from the southeast, receiving a mix of groundswells and windswells. The spot is particularly sensitive and easily blown out by onshore breezes, but it offers both left and right-handers that remain surfable at all stages of the tide. It is unlikely to be crowded even when conditions are good, though surfers should be wary of rips and potential pollution. The most consistent clean waves typically occur during the spring, particularly in April.
