Local Knowledge
Little Tybee Island, located just offshore from Tybee Island, is a pristine, boat-accessed beach-break with shifting sandbars and open exposure to Atlantic swell. The spot performs best in late summer through early fall—particularly September—when tropical and hurricane-season groundswells arrive cleanly and align with offshore or cross-offshore breezes. Peak surf typically occurs around low to mid tide, offering waist-high to chest-high lefts and rights that reward adventurous surfers. Crowds are virtually non-existent thanks to challenging access, but surfers should be prepared for strong currents, wild conditions, and the logistical demands of a remote environment.
