Playa de Barra in Galicia is a sheltered beach break with inconsistent surf, making winter the optimum time for a visit. The spot provides both left and right-hand waves from a mix of groundswells and windswells, and thanks to its layout, it offers some shelter from northwest winds; even when the surf is up, it is unlikely to be crowded. The best conditions reported for surf at Playa de Barra occur when a Southwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast, and the best time of year for surfing with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is the month of February.
