Hooks in North Florida is an exposed beach break with quite reliable surf that can work year-round. It performs best with offshore winds from the west and a swell direction from the northeast, receiving a mix of groundswells and windswells. The break primarily offers left-hand waves and is best surfed around high tide when the tide is rising. When conditions are favorable, it can get crowded. Surfers should watch out for sharks and jellyfish. Optimal surf occurs when a northeast swell combines with west winds, with the most consistent clean waves typically found in winter, especially in January.
