Hillsboro Inlet is a hazardous inlet, but the surf breaks like a point break off the south side. The spot is best for intermediate to advanced surfers, and the most favorable time of year for surfing is during the winter when a big swell hits. Conditions are best when a north swell combines with light offshore winds from the west, producing hollow waves. The spot is sometimes crowded, and hazards include strong currents that can reach six knots, shifting sands, and reefs.
