Local Knowledge
Apollo Beach is a sand-bottom beach-break located along a quieter stretch of Florida’s Atlantic coastline. Surf tends to be most consistent during winter months (November–March), with additional swell arriving sporadically during late summer and early fall from tropical systems. East to northeast swells generally produce the best waves, especially when early-morning southwest or west winds are light. Mid to incoming tides typically offer the most balanced shape. Waves are usually small and mellow—smooth peelers suitable for beginners and longboarders. The beach sees fewer surfers than more famous nearby spots, though swimmers and surfers alike should remain aware of strong currents and occasional rough surf.
