Playa Samara is an exposed beach and reef break in Golfo de Nicoya that offers reliable surf year-round. It works best with offshore winds from the north and groundswells from the south-southwest. The most favorable conditions occur when a south-southwest swell combines with offshore winds from the north. The beach provides both left and right-hand beach and reef breaks. The spot can get crowded when the surf is up, and surfers should be cautious of rips and shallow outside reefs. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during the winter months, particularly in December.
