Local Knowledge & Surf Guide
Local Knowledge
The Box in Valencia is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that doesn’t work very often, with summer usually being flat. The waves tend to come from local windswells rather than distant groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the east-northeast and the best offshore winds from the west-southwest. Both the beach and reef breaks offer left and right-hand waves. The surf can be good at all tide stages, and when it’s working, the lineup can get quite busy. Surfers should be cautious of urchins and underwater obstacles. The best time to catch waves here is typically outside the summer months when swells pick up.
