Taylors Mistake in Kaikoura is a fairly exposed beach break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when an East-northeast swell, with groundswells being more frequent than windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the West. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves and provides good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water, and surfers should take care of hazards such as rips and rocks.
