Le Bons Bay in Canterbury is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with an east-southeast swell and offshore winds from the west-southwest, when clean, rideable waves are most likely. Waves come from both local windswells and distant groundswells, and the beach produces both left and right-hand breaks. When conditions line up it can become crowded, so surfers should watch out for strong rips and exposed rocks in the lineup.
