Hickory Bay in Banks Peninsula is an exposed beach break with quite reliable surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with a southeast swell and offshore winds from the north, typically during autumn—most often in March—when clean, rideable waves are most consistent. Windswells and groundswells are equally likely, with the beach producing both left and right-hand waves. The spot can sometimes get crowded, and surfers should take care around strong rips and exposed rocks.
