Gough Bay in Banks Peninsula is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. The best surf occurs with an east-southeast swell and offshore winds from the northwest, typically during winter—most often in July—when clean, rideable waves are most common. Most of the surf comes from groundswells, and the beach produces both left and right-hand waves. It can sometimes get crowded, and surfers should take care around strong rips and exposed rocks.
