Playa de los Barcos in Cantabria is a fairly exposed beach break that offers inconsistent surf, with the summer months often remaining flat. This spot provides both left and right-hand waves from an equal measure of groundswells and windswells; while it is best surfed around low tide and is generally uncrowded, visitors should be aware that on the rare occasions it does get busy, the crowd density can reach hazardous levels, making a helmet a wise choice. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the winter, specifically in the month of January.
