Playa del Janubio (Lanzarote) is a fairly exposed beach and reef break featuring both left and right beach peaks that delivers dependable surf, though the summer months tend to be mostly flat. The spot is equally receptive to windswells and groundswells, reaching peak performance at all stages of the tide when a west swell direction aligns with offshore winds blowing from the east-northeast (though northwest winds are also highly favorable). While winter is the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves, the month of January historically offers the most consistent conditions. Forecasters and surfers should note that the primary localized hazard to look out for is the presence of rocks.
