El Roque Taganana (Tenerife) is an exposed sandbar break featuring both left and right peaks that only works once in a while, showing no particular seasonal pattern for its raw setups. The spot is equally receptive to local windswells and distant groundswells, reaching peak performance at all stages of the tide when a north swell angle aligns with offshore winds blowing from the south-southeast. While the break is inconsistent throughout the year, winter remains the premier season overall for clean, rideable waves, with the month of December historically offering the most reliable windows of light, offshore winds. As a fairly popular wave, the lineup can sometimes get crowded, requiring surfers and forecasters to keep a close eye on the primary localized hazards of strong rip currents and undertow.
