Local Knowledge
Seal Beach Jetty in North Orange County is an exposed jetty break with a sand and rock bottom, offering punchy, fast-breaking waves ideal for shortboarders—best conditions typically arrive in summer and early fall. Offshore northeast winds groom south and southwest swells, generating wedgy lefts and rights that refract off the jetty and nearby sandbars. The spot works best during low to mid tide, with higher tides softening the wave. It can get moderately crowded, especially when the sandbars are dialed in. Surfers should watch out for rip currents, submerged rocks near the jetty, and shifting peaks. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
